That Wanaka Tree, Wanaka during winter

As a travel photographer, I've been fortunate enough to visit some incredible places around the world, but one destination that I just can't get enough of is That Wanaka Tree in Wanaka, New Zealand.

I've visited the Wanaka Tree four times now, in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018, and each time I'm blown away by its beauty. It's a lone willow tree that stands tall in the middle of Lake Wanaka, surrounded by snow-capped mountains and crystal-clear water. It's become an iconic spot for photographers and travelers, and for good reason.

I've taken some awesome photos of That Wanaka Tree over the years, and I'd love to share some of my tips for getting the best shots:

  1. Timing is everything. The best time to capture the Wanaka Tree is during sunrise or sunset, when the light is soft and warm, and the colors in the sky are incredible. Plan to arrive early to scout out your spot and get set up before the light starts to change.

  2. Use a tripod. A tripod is essential for getting sharp, steady shots. It also allows you to experiment with different compositions and angles without having to worry about camera shake.

  3. Play with reflections. The Wanaka Tree is famous for its reflection in the water, so make sure to incorporate that into your shots. Get low to the ground to capture the full reflection, or experiment with different angles to create unique compositions.

  4. Don't be afraid to get creative. The Wanaka Tree is a popular subject, but that doesn't mean you can't put your own spin on it. Experiment with different lenses, filters, and editing techniques to create something truly unique.

Check out some of my photos from my trips to That Wanaka Tree over the years. I hope they inspire you to visit this stunning destination and capture some amazing shots of your own!
